BIOGRAPHY

I am a California native, born at UCLA Medical Center and raised in Seal Beach. I received a BFA from The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago. I returned to Los Angeles, after working regularly in Chicago theatre for a few years. I was lucky enough to work as an actor at the Colony Theatre, South Coast Repertory, A Noise Within, Shakespeare Santa Barbara and The Evidence Room before turning my attention full-time to directing. For four years I was the Artistic Director of The Blank Theatre's new play workshop: The Living Room Series, which is where I discovered my love for new plays. I oversaw over 100 readings and workshops of new pieces, several of which went on to full productions. I also directed four plays for The Blank Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival. I have been working constantly around town since.

I am currently a resident director and literary manager of The Syzygy Theatre Group where I have directed My Thing of Love and Talley’s Folly. In January of 2011, I will open the west coast premiere of Smudge by Rachel Axler (The Daily Show, Parks and Recreation). Most recently, I directed the back-to-back world premieres of London’s Scars by Richard Martin Hirsch (Odyssey Theatre) and Sidhe by Ann Noble (Road Theatre Company). Other recent credits include the LA premiere of Bach at Leipzig (Odyssey Theatre), the west coast premiere of US Drag (Furious Theatre Company, 7 LA Weekly nominations), the world premieres of Leonard’s Voice (Moving Arts' Car Plays), Seven Santas (Open Fist Theatre Company), HEADS (Los Angeles Times “Best of 2007”), and American Way (both at The Blank Theatre) and Street Angel Diaries (Boston Court). Other west coast premieres include of A Hole in the Dark (The Blank Theatre, LADCC Award for Best Actress), The Boarding House by Ann Noble (Interact Theatre Company), and the Los Angeles premiere of The Book of Liz (LA Times “Best of 2005”), which ran for a year.

I have recently begun working with actor training programs, having directed Becoming Memories, Scenes from American Life and Blue Window for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and a new translation of Carlo Goldoni’s The Antiquarian’s Family for Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

While amassing a theatre career, I have continued to learn about the film and television side of the industry. I have been able to observe directors on "Weeds", "Still Standing", "Rodney" and "Eve." For the Obama election, I worked with a friend to produce some creative advertising spots based on Apple's famous "I'm a Mac" commercials. This past summer, I directed my first feature, Hitting the Cycle.

I am a proud husband and father, as well as a member of the SDC.
